SINCE 2002, James has been the Director of Music and Resident Composer at Grace Chicago Church. In this capacity he has created many arrangements of classic hymns and songs and regularly composes new hymns based on traditional texts. Some of these can be found on the 2007 Sounding Grace recording and James can be found each Sunday morning at Grace Chicago's weekly service playing piano, clarinet, tin whistle, and leading the ensemble. Read more about James' work in liturgical music at this feature from The Christian Century. James is also a frequent lecturer on music in worship, especially pertaining to improvisation, and has spoken at Wheaton College, Calvin College, Le Teurneu University, Whitworth College, and Gordon College.
